 Ahmet R. Karaca, M.D.

Ahmet R. Karaca, M.D.
Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery

Qualifications and experience are important factors to consider when choosing a plastic surgeon. Dr. Karaca has the rare distinction of certification by both the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery. "Plastic Surgery is a perfectionist's specialty," he says, providing insight into his character as well as the expectations he's placed upon his work. Early in his career he mastered the intricacies of general surgery before discovering that plastic surgery appealed more to his character.

Dr. Karaca's straightforward approach has earned him his patients' respect and loyalty according to Usylla Galetto, who has not only been Dr. Karaca's patient, but who has also worked in his office for 20 years. "There is a special rapport here between doctor and patient," she says.

About Ahmet R. Karaca, M.D.

"Plastic surgery touches my sense of vision for this world," Dr. Karaca summarizes. "If people feel that I have helped them, if my skills can make people feel better about themselves, then I have accomplished something rewarding. Life is here to be enjoyed."

Dr. Karaca is also one of few plastic surgeons in the area to perform the new body-lift procedure. Often done in conjunction with liposuction, this procedure results in a dramatic change in the hips, buttocks, and thighs.

His success with rhinoplasty cannot be ignored, either. The procedure is still one of the most difficult to perform with natural results, yet it is one of Dr. Karaca's favorite challenges. "The goal is not to have a great-looking nose job," he says, "but to have your nose look so natural that no one knows the results were accomplished through surgery."

Dr. Karaca is now offering Cymetra (liquid alloderm) and Restylane injections as fillers. No testing is required for either.

Dr. Karaca is Chief of Plastic Surgery at Huron-Valley Sinai Hospital- Detroit Medical Center and is on the staff of St. Joseph Mercy Hospital- Oakland.

Dr. Karaca accepts Visa, Mastercard, and American Express. He also participates with Medicare.

ARE YOU CONSIDERING A BREAST REDUCTION?

Dr. Ahmet Karaca understands the emotional and physical discomforts that many women with very large breasts experience. Patients seek Dr. Karaca's expertise to find relief from conditions such as back, neck and shoulder pain, chronic dermatitis beneath the breasts, deep indentations in the shoulders from tight bra straps and extreme self-consciousness.

During his 24 years in private practice, Dr. Karaca has performed more than 1,200 breast-reduction procedures, many times the number commonly performed by most plastic surgeons. His patients experience dramatic, life-changing results.

"They may go from a double D or a double F cup to a more comfortable C cup," Dr. Karaca says. "The day after surgery patients will tell me, 'Oh my back feels so much better.' Patients have better proportioned figures, their clothes fit better and it's easier for them to take part in physical activities. They feel better, and they say they wish they had had the procedure sooner."

Almost all breast reductions are performed for medical reasons and are covered by insurance, to the extent of the patient's coverage. The three-hour outpatient procedure is less painful than breast augmentation, Dr. Karaca says.

"This is major surgery, but it feels like minor surgery to the patients. There are no muscles cut; therefore, there's hardly any pain, just some soreness," he says. "Patients do better than they think they will."

During an initial, lengthy consultation with the patient, Dr. Karaca explains the breast-reduction procedure, showing diagrams of the incisions and "before and after" photographs. Surgery involves the removal of excess tissue, fat, and skin around the nipple and areola. The nipple and areola remain attached to the underlying tissue and are moved to a higher position. "They have their own blood supply and sensation. You try to preserve that," Dr. Karaca says.

In almost every case, the areola is reduced to fit the new breast. The breasts are lifted higher on the chest and the remaining skin holds the tissues tightly, giving the figure a more youthful appearance.

"Think of it like a 'skin bra' that holds the breast," Dr. Karaca says to describe the design. "You're able to go braless if you feel like it. It's a tighter, more compact breast. The stitches are internal. I use paper tape on the surface," he says. "When the tapes come off two weeks later, you just have a fine line."

Practice

An initial consultation takes 45 minutes to an hour. The desires and concerns of the patient are clearly determined and a thorough examination is done. After the examination, the surgical solutions, possible options, complications, anesthesia and the expected outcome are discussed. Pictures are always shown. The patient then spends some time with our office manager to discuss fees and miscellaneous costs as well as insurance coverage. In some cases pictures are taken to be used with pre-authorization letters. Patients are given several references. The scheduling and the different hospitals are also discussed. The planned treatment is then discussed together. The patient is invited to return for further consultations at no charge until she/he can make a definite decision.

Patient Testimonials

Dr. Dr. Karaca:

This letter may seem a small way of saying "Thank You" for what you have done for me but believe me it means a lot in a big way. I appreciate your skill, knowledge and professional ability in order to be able to treat me the way you have. Why can't there be more doctors like you? I honestly feel great about myself. To be a whole person again has done wonders for my self-image. I have done my best to educate people on my surgery and I would not hesitate to recommend anyone to you who may be considering having it done.

I hope to make your portfolio. After all, a double reconstruction would certainly reveal your credibility at its finest. Hopefully, in the future you'll be able to persuade your colleagues to use, or at least consider your techniques. Let's face it: all mastectomy patients will never have the privilege of being treated by you.

I've been wanting to express this to you since the operation and I feel glad that finally I have. Everything has taken place just as you said.

In closing, I do hope you understand my feelings and if at any time you need additional confirmation to help a future patient make a decision, I would be more than happy to accommodate you.

Keep up your witty, charming professionalism. I'm awfully glad to have been your patient.

Sincerely,

Barbara D.

Dear Dr. Karaca,

It's six weeks since my breast augmentation and I feel great! Back into my aerobics full swing, and for the first time in my life, feeling good about my figure in a leotard.

Thank you for your sensitivity and professionalism!

Sincerely,

  zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Dr. Karaca:

After contemplating surgery for more than four years, you must know that it wasn't an easy decision for me. Even after choosing you for a surgeon, it still took 10 months to finally go through with it. I have been impulsive about many things in my life, but this was not one of them. After meeting with several doctors about my situation, I found such a feeling of relief at your office. While other doctors are looking at their watch, or holding on to the doorknob, you are answering every question, and explaining each detail.

Your professional manner, confidence in the results, and time you took for consultation, all made it somewhat easy for me. I realize that the money you earn is made while you're in surgery, but if it weren't for the time you spent beforehand, I would never have gone as far as the operating room. Thank you for your patience.

Although I am still recovering, I can see the results were well worth the long wait. Your perfectionism is obvious. I certainly hope that I will not be in need of your services in the future, but I will definitely pass your name if given the chance to refer someone.

Sincerely yours;

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Dear Dr. Karaca:

One of the highest compliments in any profession is a satisfied client. Thank you and your staff for making an otherwise uncomfortable situation so relaxing.

From the first consultation to my most recent follow-up appointment, I've remained confident under your skilled care. Seven weeks later, I know my choice in you was the right one. I'm very pleased when I look in the mirror every morning getting ready for work. And the feeling lasts.

So, what can we fix next?

Again, sincere compliments for a job superbly done. I highly recommend you to anyone interested in having surgery.

High Regards,

Sarah W.

Dear Dr. Karaca, M.D.,

This letter is in confirmation to a conversation I had with you regarding my face lift of a year ago.

Let me take a few lines to tell you a little about myself. I am a forty nine year old female who has always taken pride in my appearance. Although, not to the point of being vain. Exercise and good nutrition have always been a part of my adult life. I have been able to maintain my weight, within a ten pound range, since my teens. So, I must admit I was quite surprised when my face and neck started sagging much in my middle forties. My eyes became extremely puffy most of the time. People began remarking to me about my lack of rest. When in fact I had a good nights rest. Eight hours or more.

My main interest in having my eyes, face, and neck done was to turn the clock back a few years and put my features back in sync with the rest of my mind and body.

Much to my surprise after having my face done, one of the first things that became very apparent was the way in which people treated me. There was no doubt that when I looked better, I was treated better. Clerks in stores were more eager to wait on me and took more time trying to please me. People, whom I have done business with on a regular basis during the past twenty years, (for example: banks, the drug store, and beauty shop), all treated me in a more positive manner. The man at the market that I frequent suddenly went out of his way to make conversation and be more helpful. Similarly, the person at the dry cleaners had a new friendlier attitude toward me. Friends and acquaintances, who knew nothing about my surgery, eagerly wanted to know what I had done with my hair or what new make up I was using. "You look fantastic!", they would say. It happened much too often to have been just a fluke. I am sure if I were competing in the job market, the simple fact that I look better and more vibrant than other forty nine year olds would be a big advantage.

In conclusion, I would like to thank Dr. Karaca, M.D. for his wonderful skills and expert technique. I will enjoy my new face every day. It has been a very positive change in my life.

Sincerely,

Susan D.
