About Stanley Jacobs, M.D.

Facial Cosmetic Surgeon

In Toronto, almost all cosmetic facial surgery was done in the hospital because of government subsidy. Dr. Jacobs therefore was able to perform more rhinoplasty (nose surgery), eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), and facelift surgeries (rhytidectomies) in training than most American plastic surgeons do in their first 5-10 years in practice.

Dr. Jacobs attended the University of Western Ontario Medical School from 1979 to 1983. This medical school has been voted the number one medical school in Canada - "The Harvard of the North". His undergraduate work was at the internationally renowned McGill University in Montreal where he graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelors Science degree. Dr. Jacobs also has a Master of Science degree from the Department of Medical Biophysics and Immunology at the premier Cancer Center in Canada, the Ontario Cancer Institute in Toronto. (This is where the CAT Scan was invented).

Dr. Jacobs attends medical conferences 2-3 times a year in facial plastic surgery and has written many articles ranging from cosmetic surgery to radiation physics. He is currently writing articles on rhinoplasty analysis, deep plane facelifts and canthoplasty in eyelid surgery. His article, "The Four Planes of Inclination in Rhinoplasty Analysis: A Three Year Study", was accepted by "The Rhinoplasty Society" and was presented at the Society's annual meeting in New York City on May 3, 2001.

Dr. Jacobs' life-time goal is to become one of the premier Facial Plastic Surgeons in the world by constantly critiquing his own work in an honest and analytical manner. He believes that beauty of the fine arts can be applied to aesthetics of facial plastic surgery. It is to this end that he continually strives in a singular purpose.

Dr. Jacobs is Board Certified by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ABFPRS). He is the only facial plastic surgeon certified by this Board in Sonoma County. There are only a handful of specialty trained surgeons such as him in the entire Bay Area. He is also one of only a few Facial Plastic Surgeons in the United States that has Fellowship training after residency. This was the late Larry D. Schoenrock, M.D. at the University of California San Francisco.

Dr. Jacobs is triple Board Certified in addition to the ABFPRS he is also certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada. He has been chief of surgery at Sutter Hospital in Santa Rosa and Chief of Facial Plastic Surgery at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital. He has hospital priviledges at Sutter, Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, and Warrack Hospitals in Santa Rosa and California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, California.

About SynergyLiftTM

SynergyLiftTM is the product of a six year study Dr. Jacobs conducted in his continuing effort to achieve the best possible facelift results in his patients.

Forty years ago plastic surgeons knew that facelifts improve the structure of the aging face- loose jowls, cheeks, and necks- but the damaged skin remained unchanged. They also knew that chemical peels (lasers did not appear until the late 1980s) could improve just that aspect of damaged skin but not the architecture. Early efforts at combining the two treatments (facelifts and peels) had some disastrous results with the facial skin dying. So, for almost 40 years the topic of combined treatments remained silent- until now.

Dr. Jacobs decided to slowly and carefully use low strengths of TCA chemical peels (starting at 10% and going up to 30%) to facial skin while he did his facelifts. Over the last five years, he has performed over 160 cases with 20% to 25% TCA chemical peels concurrent with his facelifts and has found no additional untoward effects compared to facelifts along (85 patients) or TCA peels along (77 patients) and studied over the same five-year period.

Not only did the simultaneous treatment show no ill effects, it produced results that were superior to the two procedures done separately, say 6 to 12 months apart, as is done most commonly (if done at all). Somehow, (we do not know yet why) a "synergistic) phenomenon takes place: 1+1=5, or facelift + TCA= much more improvement than facelift alone or TCA alone or when they are done on the same patient but separated by six months or greater. Perhaps it is an improved blood supply or some form of "cross-talk" from skin cells to muscle/fascial cells. Whatever it is, the results are astonishing to the point that Dr. Jacobs recommends SynergyLiftTM to over two-thirds of his patients who come to see him for facial rejuvenation, because he knows that the results will be remarkable.

Interestingly enough, it turns out that his study, "Five Year Experience with 160 Facelifts and Concurrent TCA Chemical Peels," which encompasses SynergyLiftTM, is the largest and most comprehensive of its kind ever published. This paper was peer reviewed and accepted for presentation at the 40th Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Facial Plastic Reconstructive Surgery in New York City, October 2004. A few other surgeons have used 35% TCA (Dr. Jacobs feels can be too strong) with facelifts but in only 20 to 30 patients over one year follow-up, and no control groups were established.

Other studies using phenol (very strong chemical peel solution) or CO2 laser in place of TCA had serious complications. Dr. Jacobs does not use phenol is his cases, and he reserves CO2 laser for severely damaged skin, usually for acne scarring, or occasionally for deep lines around the mouth.

SynergyLiftTM is a safe and very effective treatment. Dr. Jacobs believes it to be superior to conventional facelifts, and SynergyLiftTM has proven itself in over 160 of Dr. Jacob's cases studied for more than five years, resulting in tightening of the jowls, cheeks, and neck, while erasing the ravages of sun damage on the skin.

Dr. Jacobs Interviewed by CNN

CNN's Rusty Dornin selected Dr. Stanley Jacobs to be interviewed in CNN's ongoing exploration of the Michael Jackson case. In the segment for the program "Anderson Cooper 360°", Dornin asked Dr. Jacobs to give his surgical opinion on and analyze the changes to Michael Jackson's appearance over the course of his many years in the public eye. The interview with Dr. Jacobs is part of a 5-part series on Michael Jackson.

"I was pleased to meet with Ms. Dornin in my San Francisco office, and we reviewed a series of photos of Mr. Jackson taken at various points of his career," Dr. Jacobs said. "Our discussion centered on what procedures Mr. Jackson likely had and the telltale signs of his surgeries as told by the photos."

Patient Testimonials

"It took me several years to give myself permission to pursue the possibility of having cosmetic surgery. But when I finally got serious about it, I interviewed three other surgeons who had each been recommended to me. I was not impressed. I had just about decided not to go ahead with the process, not because I didn't want to but because I did not feel comfortable with any of the doctors I had talked with. It takes an incredible degree of courage and trust to allow anyone to do the degree of major surgery that I was coming to realize had to be done to accomplish what I wanted. I had seen Dr. Jacob's full-page ads in Sonoma Business Magazine and was impressed with the photos I saw. So when I saw an ad in the paper for a seminar he was giving on eyelid surgery, I decided to attend. As I sat there and listened to him explain the procedure and how he worked I was very impressed, not only with the slides he was showing us but also with him as a person and a very skilled surgeon. I won a free consultation that evening and after spending some one-on-one time with him, my doubts and fears about cosmetic surgery began to go away and I felt that what I wanted was going to be possible.

Dr. Stanley Jacobs is a warm and compassionate person who made me feel as though I was the only patient he has ever treated. He is a true master at what he does and has developed the skills and techniques that allow him to perform what I call miracles. He has carefully selected a staff that reflects the same degree of caring, personal concern. The day of my surgery I was pampered and cared for as though I was beginning an adventure...and indeed I was. I can honestly say I was uncomfortable but never in pain. As I watched the healing process take place, I was in awe of the transformation that he had made. In my opinion, he is the finest cosmetic surgeon there is and I feel so grateful to him for his abilities. I now look the way I feel and that's pretty wonderful in itself.

If anyone reading this is considering this type of surgery, you are so fortunate, for you have found the best."

"When I was a little girl I use to ask for my birthdays and for Christmas if I could have a new nose...My family and friends would say 'why you don't need one.' They did not see what I saw. As I got older I continued to ask for a new nose...still nothing. 5 years ago I got a job in corporate America, in sales to be specific, and I always felt when giving a sales presentation that the client was staring at my nose and not hearing about my product. About 3 years ago, I started actively researching plastic surgeons and going to consultation after consultation. I saw 5 surgeons in one year. None ever making me really feel like I need to take the leap. They all said they could help me and they all said they could fix my nose but none of them made me feel secure and 'not afraid'. I always asked the question 'will I look completely different' and I usually got one of two answers: either 'yes that's what you want' or B.) do you want to look completely different.

Finally I had stopped researching and decided that I would just live with it. I ran into a girl who had a surgery by a Dr. in Santa Rose, she swore by him, so I thought 'what the hell' one more try won't matter. So I called and set an apt. Of course there was a consultation fee, well I had paid out more consultation fees then I could count...Any way I set the apt and then I went. And I went with the attitude that it was just another consultation apt with a Dr. I was not gonna like. It turned out I was there for 2 hours and I was so comfortable by the time I left I could have had the surgery that day. It was what he said and how he said it that was totally convincing and a matter of fact he was so non-convincing that was even better. Dr. Jacobs said this was not about fixing my nose, it was an art form. And I thought to myself 'Art Form, what does that mean?' And he said he needs to form my new nose into exactly what I want...We went over so many questions. I asked about pain, I asked about medication, I asked about recovery, I asked everything. He was so patient, so reassuring, so non-treating. After the apt. I made the next apt. for the actual surgery. I was really excited. I was hoping to have it in the next week. 'Well no such luck' of course, he was very busy. So I made the apt for about a month out. Periodically the staff would call to check in, which was awesome. So I went for my pre apt. and went over all the things I needed and I also met everyone who would be involved in my surgery.

The big day came. I actually slept the night before. My Mom asked me if I was nervous I said not really, because I really trust this Dr. I feel like he likes me as a person and does not just see me as a patient. That was the real thing. Any ways I arrived at the Dr. office, I did have some anxiety. Amy and Patty and the other staff members took me under the wing and made me as comfortable as possible. They were great. The surgery was a huge success and no more than 5 months later and the results I have, the amount of money was so meaningless. I would pay gazillion's of dollars all over again. Anyone who is considering this should take some time to at least have a conversation with Dr. Jacobs and the rest is a given."

"I first started seeing Dr. Stanley Jacobs for collagen injections for vertical lines around my lips. Over the course of treatment, he and I discussed facelift options. He educated me by patiently explaining the procedures involved and their resulting benefits to my appearance. I didn't want to look different, just better....less tired and more youthful. I wanted my face to more closely resemble my youthful approach to life.

Making the decision to have any kind of elective surgery is not easy. For me it was extremely important to have a doctor whom I trusted and whom I know would give me sound advice at the same time listening to my desires. The fact that Dr. Jacobs does plastic surgery only on faces is reflected in the artistry of his work with all his expertise and attention focused on one part of the body. He is a perfectionist.

Dr. Jacobs addressed all my concerns, and he did so more than once. He never 'pushed' any recommended procedures but was able to show a simulated result. I was convinced. A little over a year ago, Dr. Jacobs performed my facelift and [the name of that procedure where muscle is trimmed and reattached to cheekbones.]

I couldn't be happier with my more youthful facial appearance. Not only do I have a more 'open' appearance, but also the texture and polish of my skin was greatly improved. I have been so thrilled with the results that I have recommended friends to Dr. Jacobs, and they too have been more than pleased with the results. I believe this community is fortunate to have such an artistic plastic surgeon the caliber of Dr. Jacobs.

Thank you!"

"Letter of Appreciation to Dr. Jacobs

Long before I had surgery I dreamed and met with friends and we talked about reconstructive surgery and what we would like to do. But it was only a dream. None of us acted upon it. Then, last fall (1999), I began an exercise program and lost 15 pounds. I was back to the weight I was in my younger years and I liked my body. But after the weight loss, my face showed wrinkles that I had never seen before. I looked old. Even older than my age, I thought. I was healthy, active, and full of life but my face did not match my feelings. It depressed me.

I began to seriously look into plastic surgery, facelift or Rhytidectomy. I interviewed two specialists in Plastic Surgery and was almost ready to set a date for the surgery. Then I heard of a seminar by Dr. Stanley Jacobs about facial surgery and I decided to attend. I am very glad that I did because I learned that Dr. Jacobs specializes in faces only and that is very important. I was very impressed with Dr. Jacobs' credentials. I liked his enthusiasm about his work, his creativity and artistic approach to facial surgery. Most of all, his medical education and experience convinced me. It was with total confidence that on May 9, 2000, I let Dr. Jacobs do surgery on my face and that decision made a tremendous impact in my life. Two weeks after the surgery I returned to work a new person. I feel wonderful! I feel pretty! I only regret that I did not do it sooner.

Thank you, Dr. Jacobs, for the competent and miraculous work that you have done for me. It has changed my life."
