VASER Liposuction an Improvement on Previous Methods

Doctors have announced a new method of performing liposuction that boosts the results of the procedure. The new VASER system allows better skin retraction and smoother sculpting than traditional liposuction methods.

Cosmetic surgery and plastic surgery are two different categories of appearance altering procedures. Cosmetic surgery focuses on enhancing a patient's appearance through surgical and medical techniques, but because the treated areas function properly beforehand and surgery is merely performed to improve aesthetic appeal, cosmetic surgery is elective. Plastic surgery focuses on reconstruction of facial and bodily defects caused by birth disorders, trauma, burns, and disease. Because plastic surgery is more function oriented, it is separate from cosmetic surgery, and health insurance companies are more likely to pay for such procedures.

Developed at SkinCare Physicians, VASER liposuction uses ultrasonic waves to emulsify, or break up, the fat before it is suctioned out. It is particularly useful for breaking up areas of thick or fibrous fat, the kind that often develops on the upper abdomen and back. VASER allows gentler and more precise liposuction treatments, so patients recover more quickly than from previous methods of liposuction. "It allows us to precisely and gently sculpt these areas of the body and create smooth, slender contours," said Dr. Michael S. Kaminer of SkinCare Physicians.

Many liposuction patients use their own fat in transfer procedures to add volume to lips and cheeks and to re-sculpt nasolabial folds and jaw lines. "One of the keys to success with autologous fat transfer is the quality and viability of the fat used," says Dr. Kaminer. "The gentle nature of the VASER system has always produced a better quality of fat for transplantation, but new innovations in the platform make the process even more efficient." These innovations include ways to manage containment and processing of the harvested fat which means that fat back me transfered more easily. These two innovations are performed simultaneously, allowing patients to undergo autologous fat injections almost immediately, which cuts the procedure time, making it safer and more efficient. "VASER technology is keeping up with that demand, and improving cosmetic options for patients," said Dr. Kaminer.

The company that developed VASER ultrasonic liposuction, SkinCare Physicians, is a comprehensive, state of the art center for cosmetic surgery, laser surgery, dermatology, dermatologic and skin cancer surgery, and medical aesthetics. The founders of SkinCare Physicians are internationally renowned for their innovations in these fields. The founders and their associates have authored over 1,400 articles in scientific publications, are authors or editors of over 265 books, are editors of 18 medical journals, and serve on editorial boards of 14 additional periodicals.
