Will Charice Pempenco follow the footsteps of Lindsay Lohan, now a
distinguished guest of the correctional system, in getting bad
publicity on the internet? I don't think "Oprah" will like
that!
Recently, the Filipina youtube sensation got criticized by hordes
of fans due to her/someone else's decision to be injected with
"Botox."
According to the Associated Press, the
singer revealed she recently got Botox and Thermage procedure at a
recent press conference in the Philippines.
Charice's Botox and Thermage procedure
was administered by local cosmetic dermatologist Vicki Belo, a
medical director of several skin clinics in the country. She also
happens to be the singers Godmother, who seem to have a pretty
colorful life herself.
The fans didn't really blame Charice for the publicity stunt which
was executed in a bad taste, but a lot of them got very hostile
against the people surrounding the singer, especially to Dr. Vicky
Belo who - most fans believed - used the sensational pop star.
Charice is set to appear in the famous T.V. musical, "GLEE."
She will play the role of an exchange student and a rival to Lea
Michele's Rachel Berry.
Charice's representative countered the bad publicity by denying
that the Filipino 18 year old singer underwent Botox to change
her appearance for the TV series. Her rep tells UsMagazine.com the reason for the procedure
was simply "to relieve a jaw problem similar to TMJ."
The problem with their denial was there's a video in you tube where
Belo said that she noticed Charice's face has been getting wider,
which was blamed due to the singer's love for chewing gums. And a fan
even mentioned that Belo uploaded pictures of Charice in the Dr.'s official
facebook like page with a caption: "Charice got Belo-fied for
Glee!" Besides, Charice herself mentioned in a press conference
in her native country that she underwent the procedure "to look
fresh on camera."
It is also important to note that according to the site of
National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, "The
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved Botox for the
treatment of certain eye muscle disorders, cervical dystonia (neck
muscle spasms), and severe underarm sweating, as well as for limited
cosmetic use. Botox has not been approved by the FDA for use in
TMJ disorders.
Raised
by a single mother, Charice sang in local contests, became famous in
youtube, and got her big break on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show"
at age 15. She was also noticed by Oprah Winfrey who later dubbed her
"the Most Talented Girl in the World." She became a guest
singer of famous musician's concerts like David Foster and Celine
Dion; she also sang for Obama in the President's inauguration party.
There is a saying that, "Good or bad publicity, is still publicity." But
the young singer's talent is already a great publicity on it's own.
If there are people who gained from this hullaballoo, the talented
singer is definitely not one of them, and was simply used for the
gain of another. As a celebrity, for sure, this is not the only time
she won't be in a state of GLEE!
