Chemical Peel.

The term chemical peel makes the facial procedure sound much more painful. Chemical peel is a procedure, which uses a chemical solution to smooth and improve the texture of facial skin too much sun, smog, stress and airborne chemicals, spots and a large number of dermatologic conditions can cause skin damage. A chemical peel helps cure to return a young looking glow to the face, neck or hands by removing its damaged outer layers.

Chemical peel is meant for those individuals with facial blemishes, uneven skin pigmentation, and wrinkles. It is frequently performed in conjunction with a facelift, but it is not a substitute for the surgery. This procedure is most commonly performed for cosmetic reasons, to improve patient?s appearance and self-confidence.

Alphahydroxy acids, such as lactic, glycolic, or fruit acids are the mildest of the peel formulas and produce light peels. These types of peels can provide smoother, brighter-looking skin for people who can't spare the time to recover from a phenol or TCA peel. AHA peels may be used to treat fine wrinkling, areas of dryness, uneven pigmentation and spots. The various concentrations of an AHA may be applied weekly or at longer intervals to obtain the best result. The doctor will make this decision during patient consultation and as the treatment proceeds. An alphahydroxy acid, such as glycolic acid, can also be mixed with a facial wash or cream in lesser concentrations as part of a daily skin-care regimen to improve the skin's texture.

Chemical peels may be carefully performed in a plastic surgeon's office, office-based surgical facility or outpatient surgical center. The plastic surgeon may want patient to stay overnight in a facility or hospital if other cosmetic procedures are performed concurrently. All chemical peels carry some uncertainty and risk. Chemical peel is normally a safe procedure when it is performed by a qualified, experienced plastic surgeon. Some unpredictability and risks such as infection and scarring, while infrequent, are possible.

It is important that patient discuss their expectations with the plastic surgeon. The patient doesn?t falter to ask any questions or express any concerns that may have and expect that plastic surgeon to explain the planned procedure in detail, including its risks and benefits, the recovery period and the costs. If patient have a history of herpes, to inform to the physician prior to the procedure.
