Breast Lift.

As time marches on changes occur within their body that they are unable to stop. While everybody has hopes of aging gracefully, their body naturally ages and changes in their lives have a physical effect creating changes in the appearances. Loss of skin elasticity, gravity and other factors such as weight loss, pregnancy and breast-feeding finally affect the shape and firmness of the breasts. With the size of their breasts patients who are generally satisfied and have a breast lift to raise and firm them, resulting in a more young-looking breast contour.

Some patients may be miserable that they have lost a important amount of breast volume over time. In such cases, implants inserted in conjunction with a breast lift can increase breast size at the same time as the shape and position of the breasts are improved. Breast lifts are becoming increasingly popular as a plastic surgery technique that enables women to regain their young looking appearance and vitality. A surgical procedure that is known in the medical world as mastopexy, breast lifts are designed to raise and reshape sagging breasts. The end result of this treatment is that patients will have breasts.

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reported that in 2002 a total of 62,458 individuals obtained breast lifts, an increasingly popular plastic surgery technique. This figure represents an increase of 214 percent in the number of patients from five years ago. Breast lift surgery can be performed under local anesthesia with intravenous sedation, or general anesthesia. The standard breast lift has 4components; the areola is reduced, breast tissue is repositioned, the nipple and areola are elevated to a better position, and excess skin and breast tissue is removed so that a new skin envelope is formed. The most common procedure still involves an anchor shaped slit following the natural contour of the breast.

The slit outlines the area from which breast skin will be removed and defines the new location for the nipple. When the excess skin has been removed, the nipple and areola are moved to the higher position. The skin surrounding the areola is then brought down and together to reshape the breast. Stitches are usually located around the areola, in a vertical line expanding downward from the nipple area, with or without a stitch line along the lower crease of the breast, depending on the method used.
