Computer Imaging

Computer Imaging is also known as digital imaging. Computer imaging is a wide field that includes digital photography, scanning, and composition and manipulation of bit-mapped graphics. It is extensively used in the plastic surgery industry particularly during preoperative consultation periods so that the potential patient has a visual grasp of the possible result for the breast augmentation, facial resurfacing, or a tummy tuck. Computer imaging is primarily used as to develop stronger communication during consultation periods.

Many plastic surgeons use a computer imaging machine during consultations to show patients an estimate of post-operative appearance. A photograph of the patient is transferred to a computer screen and then altered by the surgeon to approximate the post-operative result. It's important to realize that a computer image may not match reality and represents no guarantee of outcome.

Breast implant computer imaging is used by certain plastic surgeons to give patients a rough idea of how their body might appear after surgery. In most cases the surgeon will take a digital photograph of the patient from the neck to the waist and transfer this photograph to a computer. After the photo is transferred to the computer screen the surgeon will alter it to present the anticipated post-operative result to their patient.

Computer imaging allows the patient to visualize the possibilities and advantages that cosmetic surgery offers. The patient's image is captured electronically and manipulated on a computer screen, helping the physician and the patient determine an appropriate goal for the surgical procedure. Computer imaging has assisted patients and doctors alike on making the right decision about plastic surgery to gain the most favorable results.

In computer technology, computer imaging has risen to the forefront as the premier tool to evaluate a patient's needs and potential outcome of a particular cosmetic procedure. Computer imaging works by taking a client's photograph with the appropriate perspective and dimensions, and then scanning in the picture onto the computer to be projected on the computer screen. Utilizing computer-imaging software, plastic surgeons can show patients a range of possible outcomes after plastic surgery.

Plastic surgery computer imaging is proven to be an excellent tool to guide discussions with a surgeon and to help one decide whether to proceed with cosmetic surgery.
